We all know the importance of making mezzanine floors fire protected. The fire protection can save some life. But we must know how these floors are made fire protected. Using the four key elements of insulation i.e. column casings, suspended ceiling, bulkheads and cavity barriers fire protection is done on mezzanine floors. Two part sheet metal case is comprised to column casing. To suit the application the metal case is galvanized or white ‘plastisol’ finish is done on it. The wires are comprised to the suspended ceiling and these wires are hung on clips vertically from the secondary beams.

By creating a framework from galvanized section bulkheads are achieved. The framework is covered with plasterboard for obtaining the required level of fire protection according to the specification of the manufacturer. With mineral wool insulation vertical barrier within the ceiling void is created which is called cavity barriers. This thing is done on mezzanine floors so that smoke and flame can be prevented from travelling through the ceiling void. These are the things which can be done to make the mezzanine floors fire rated. As a result the buildings can be felt relatively safer for the people inside there.
